What Should You Expect With Your New Pet?
As a new chin adjusts to a new home and owner, it may seem more withdrawn than usual. Many chinchillas are shy and timid, while others are more exuberant and curious. On a typical day, chins prefer to race around their homes, jump over obstacles, and delight you with their energetic antics!
Your Responsibilities as a Chinchilla Owner
- Check on your animal several times a day.
- Monitor temperature and humidity to prevent heat stroke.
- Examine your chin's food and water containers daily and add to the supply when necessary.
- Clean the cage daily, or at least once a week, depending on the size of the cage, the number of animals you have, and the type of bedding you use.
- Provide a dust bath for your chinchilla at least twice a week, preferably three times per week.
- You should also brush and/or comb its coat regularly.
